A blockchain transaction sent to an incorrect but validly-formatted address generally cannot be reversed once it confirms, since there is no central authority able to undo it the way a bank might reverse an erroneous transfer. The transaction is recorded permanently on the blockchain, and no support team or administrator has the power to change it. This is a fundamental characteristic of how blockchains work, not a policy choice by any one wallet or service.
If the mistyped address happens to belong to no one — an invalid or unused address on that network — the funds are typically unrecoverable, effectively lost. The coins exist on the blockchain but are locked at an address for which no one holds the private key. There is no technical mechanism to retrieve them, and no customer support process that can help.
If the address belongs to someone else, recovering the funds depends entirely on that person's willingness to send them back; there is no technical mechanism that forces a return. You can attempt to contact the recipient if you know who controls that address, but there is no guarantee of a response or a refund. This is why prevention is the only practical protection.
Because of this, double-checking an address before confirming a send, or using a saved or verified address and a QR code instead of manual typing, is the main practical safeguard, since prevention is the only reliable protection once a transaction is sent. Wallets like Nexus Pay let you save recipient addresses and scan QR codes to reduce the chance of a typo. Taking an extra moment to verify the address is the best — and only — way to avoid a permanent mistake.
